Chilli chicken is one of the popular Indo-Chinese food item. It is a type of dry chicken preparation. Chilli chicken has many variety of preparation. The method, style and taste varies according to the region. It is almost the same preparation of chicken Manchurian. Chilli chicken are prepared mostly using boneless chicken pieces, which makes it much tastier. Sometime chicken pieces with bones are also used. Now lets see how to prepare Chinese chilli chicken.

First marination

  • 500 g Boneless chicken
  • 1 Tsp Salt
  • 1 Tsp Pepper
  • 1/2 Cup Coriander leaves
  • 1 Tsp Ginger garlic paste
  • 1 Tbsp Soy sauce

Second marination

  • 3 Tbsp Corn flour
  • 3 Tbsp All purpose flour
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/4 Tsp Salt

For chilli preparation

  • 1/2 Green bell pepper Diced
  • 1/2 Red bell pepper Diced
  • 2 Onion Diced
  • 1 Tsp Ginger paste
  • 1 Tsp garlic Finely chopped
  • 1 Tbsp Soy sauce
  • 1/2 Tsp Vinegar
  • 1 Tsp Pepper powder
  • 2 Tsp Red chilli sauce
  • 1 Tsp Tomato ketchup
  • 1 Tbsp Corn flour
  • 1/4 Cup Water
  • 1/2 Tsp Fenugreek leaves
  • 1/2 Tsp Sesame seed (To garnish)
  • Oil For frying


  • In a blender blend coriander leaves to fine paste.
  • Marinate the chicken with coriander leaves paste, pepper powder, salt, ginger garlic paste, and soy sauce.
  • Refrigerate it for an hour.
  • In a bowl add corn flour, all purpose flour, egg and salt. Make it to a thick batter.
  • Take the marinated chicken and coat it with the batter prepared.
  • Deep fry these chicken in oil.
  • In a pan add some oil, to this add onions. Saute it till transparent.
  • To this add ginger paste, garlic, pepper powder, vinegar, some salt, and soy sauce. Saute it again for a minute.
  • To this add bell pepper, red chilli sauce and tomato ketchup. Saute it well.
  • In a bowl add corn flour and water. Mix it well.
  • Pour this mixture to chilli masala.
  • Then add all the fried chicken to it and mix well.
  • Finally add fenugreek leaves and mix well. Turn off the flame.
  • Serve it and garnish with some sesame seeds.


  • Can use coriander leaves instead of fenugreek leaves.
