Jackfruit curry or chakka curry or chakka kootan is one of the authentic kerala dish. Both jackfruit and the seed is used to make this dish. The best combination of chakka curry is spicy chilli chammanthi.

Jack fruit is one the tropical fruit, which is seen in western ghats of southern india. This can be eaten both raw and ripen. This fruit has many proven benefits. Jack fruit is a fleshy fruit.

The seed of jack fruit can also be consumed. We can prepare a lot variety of dishes using jackfruit. Lets us see how to prepare this kerala style traditional chakka curry (jackfruit curry) and the chilli chammanthi.

Ingredients
  

For curry

  • 1 Raw jackfruit
  • 1 Tbsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 Tbsp Salt
  • 5 Cloves garlic
  • 1 Coconut Grated
  • 2 Tsp Cumin seed
  • Curry leaves
  • 1 Tsp Mustard seed

For chammanthi

  • 2 Tbsp garlic Finely chopped
  • 3 Tbsp Kashmiri chilli powder
  • 1 Tbsp Oil

Instructions
 

  • Seperate the seed and flesh of the jackfruit.
  • Peel the seeds and cut them to small pieces.
  • In a pressure cooker add the flesh of jackfruit, turmeric powder, salt and some water. Cook them till it whistle 3 times.
  • In another pressure cooker add the seeds of jackfruit, turmeric powder, salt and some water. Cook them till it whistle 5 times.
  • In a bigger container add the cooked jackfruit flesh and seed and smash them till smooth.
  • In a blender add grated coconut, cumin seed, turmeric powder, salt and some water and blend them to smooth. To this add garlic and blend again.
  • Pour this coconut mixture to the smashed jackfruit mix them all well. Cook them for 5 minutes.
  • In a pan add some oil , when it gets heated add mustard seed and curry leaves. Pour this to the jackfruit curry. Mix it all together. Curry ready.
  • In a bowl add finely chopped garlic, kashmiri chilli powder and some salt.
  • In a pan add some oil and heat them for a minute. Pour this to the chilli powder and mix it well. Chilli chammanthi ready.
