Vermicelli kunafa

Kunafa ( kunafeh ) is one of the traditional dessert item. It is prepared with thin noodle like pastry or it can also be prepared with semolina dough or even with vermicelli. This kunafa prepared is soaked in sugar syrup. The kunafa is layered with cheese or cream or nuts according to the preference. In Arabic this dessert is named as kunafa and in Turkish it is named as kadayif. It is said that this dessert item is prescribed by doctors to satisfy the hunger during Ramadan. Now lets see how to prepare vermicelli kunafa with cream cheese filling.

Vermicelli kunafa
Ingredients
- 2 Cup Vermicelli Crushed
- 3 Tbsp Butter
For filling
- 1 Cup Milk
- 1 Tbsp Corn flour
- 2 Tbsp Cream cheese
- 1/2 Tsp Vanilla essence
- 3 Tbsp Sugar
For syrup
- 1/2 Cup Sugar
- 1/2 Cup Water
- 1/2 Tsp Lemon juice
- 1/2 Tsp Vanilla essence
To garnish
- Pistachios
Instructions
- In a bowl add the crushed vermicelli and mix it with butter.
- In a tray layer the half of the vermicelli and press well.
- In a pan add milk and corn flour and mix well.
- To this add sugar, vanilla essence and cream cheese. Mix it all well.
- When this cream cheese mixture starts to thicken turn off the flame.
- Pour this on top of the vermicelli layered.
- On top of this again put the remaining vermicelli.
- Steam this kunafa for 15 minutes.
- In a pan add sugar, water, lemon juice and vanilla essence. Cook it till sugar melts completely and bring it to boil.
- Pour this on top of the kunafa prepared.
- Garnish it with some pistachios
Notes
- Instead of steaming you can microwave the kunafa for 2 minutes.
